Netflix error codes explained

NW-2-5 — Network connectivity problem

Why: Your device can reach the internet but can't stay connected to Netflix — often weak Wi-Fi, a router glitch, or an ISP routing issue.

Fix:
  1. Restart your home network: unplug the modem and router for 30 seconds, then power them back on.
  2. Test another app or site to confirm the internet works.
  3. Connect the device with an Ethernet cable, or move it closer to the router.
  4. If it only fails on Netflix, contact your ISP — they may be blocking or throttling the route.

UI-800-3 — Stored data needs to be refreshed

Why: Netflix information saved on the device is out of date or corrupted.

Fix:
  1. Restart the device fully (power off, wait 30s, power on).
  2. Sign out of Netflix, then sign back in.
  3. Clear the Netflix app's cached data, or deactivate and reactivate the app.
  4. Reinstall the Netflix app if the code returns.

M7111-1331-5059 — Browser blocked — proxy/unblocker detected

Why: Netflix thinks you're using a VPN, proxy, or 'unblocker' service, or your browser data is stale.

Fix:
  1. Turn off any VPN, proxy, or unblocker and reload.
  2. Clear your browser's cookies and cache for netflix.com.
  3. Try a different network (e.g. mobile hotspot) to confirm it's the connection.
  4. Contact your ISP if you don't use a VPN — some default routes are flagged.

Why: A network problem is stopping the device from connecting to the Netflix servers.

Fix:
  1. Restart the device and your router.
  2. Check that the device's date, time, and DNS settings are correct.
  3. Wait a few minutes and try again — it can be a temporary Netflix-side issue.

UI-113 — Out-of-date information on the device

Why: Saved Netflix data on the device is stale after an update or account change.

Fix:
  1. Sign out of Netflix and restart the device.
  2. Sign back in and try the title again.
  3. Reinstall the app if the code persists.

NW-3-6 — Network settings are blocking Netflix

Why: The device connects to the internet but its network or DNS settings stop it reaching Netflix.

Fix:
  1. Verify the device is actually online with another app.
  2. Restart your modem and router.
  3. Check the device's DNS settings — switch to an automatic or public DNS (e.g. 8.8.8.8) and retry.
  4. Bypass any custom DNS/proxy configured on the router.

Why: The Netflix app on a phone or tablet has hit a temporary glitch or a date/time mismatch.

  4. Update or reinstall the Netflix app.

FAQ

Why does Netflix keep saying there's a network error when other apps work?

Netflix streams from different servers than most apps, so a route or DNS issue can hit Netflix alone. Restart your router, and if it persists, switch your DNS to automatic or a public resolver and contact your ISP.

Does a Netflix error code mean my account is banned?

No. These codes are technical — network, stored-data, or device issues. Account problems show a sign-in or billing message instead, not an NW/UI/tvq code.

Will using a VPN cause Netflix error codes?

Yes. Codes like M7111-1331-5059 appear when Netflix detects a VPN, proxy, or unblocker. Turn it off and reload to clear it.
